John Wells W4CMH Honored For His Service as
ARRL Southern Florida Section Emergency Coordinator

Lee County EC Steve Smith W9GPI (right) presented the Service Award Plaque to John Wells at the Fort Myers Amateur Radio Club's December 2021 Awards and Installation Dinner.

Three years ago, John Wells was appointed as the ARRL Southern Florida Section’s SEC (Section Emergency Coordinator) by Section Manager, Jeff Beals WA4AW.

In that role, John traveled the Southern Florida Section encouraging ARES Teams to improve their relationships with County Emergency Managers; to work with their members to “train up” to FEMA, Emergency Management and ARRL base requirements. And to track their training using the new Florida ARES Task Book. John also met regularly with Northern Florida’s SEC Karl Martin K4HBN and West Central Florida’s SEC Ben Henley KI4IGX. The three SECs also met in Tallahassee with State Emergency Management Leadership to better define the role of ARES in an Emergency Response scenario.

John has been tireless in working to improve our relationships with State EM and among County EMs with their local ARES Teams. Now retired from that role, our Lee County ARES Team honored John for his Service and Leadership while Southern Florida Section SEC.
